Asian Country & Culture Project:
Using Google Earth
Using Google Earth
Your Assignment:
You will research an Asian country (see list below) and learn about that country and its culture from eBooks, databases, and websites.
One way to comprehend and begin to explore a country’s diversity is to map it. For this assignment, you will create a collection of 5-7 placemarks in Google Earth that demonstrates some theme or aspect of your country’s history or society upon which you think it will be useful for you to focus.
You might, for example, feature contrasts between tradition and modernity in different locations; music, dance or art from different regions of your country; religious ceremonies or festivals; current issues in the news; renowned historical figures; artists or politicians; films set in different areas; environmental problems; etc.
For each placemark, in addition to the location, you will create an annotation describing its importance, a multimedia component (a video, sound file, or image), and at least one link to further online information or resources.
Choose an Asian Country from the following list and research:
(There are eBooks for these countries)
To present your research you will make a Google Earth Tour - You can create customized maps and stories about places around the world. Mark spots you care about, and add text, photos, and videos to complete your stories. You can also share your maps and stories with others to collaborate.
It may be helpful to collect all the information you'll need for your placemark(s) before you start to add to the map. You will need to think about:

It may be helpful to collect all the information you'll need for your placemark(s) before you start to add to the map. You will need to think about:
- an organizing theme for your map
- a title for each placemark
- a place to which each placemark should be linked (you want to be as specific as possible, so for example you might want to mark the Galtaji Temple rather than the city of Jaipur)
- a description for each placemark: why the event, person or thing connected to this place is significant
- images or Youtube videos you'd like to link to each placemark
- websites with further information to which you'd like each placemark to link
